Differences between 13 Reasons Why book and series
There were many differences between the book and series of 13 reasons why. I loved the book and didn't particularly like the series due to all the things they changed, I can't think of any of the changes that I liked. This blog will contain spoilers for both the book and series, so, you have been warned!

Prayer points: I pray for everyone is the same position as Hannah, that they would be able to get help easily and effective.

I don’t agree that new storylines should have been added to increase how dramatic the series is.
The storylines such as Hannah’s parents suing the school was not in the book. Also, the storyline where the other people on the tapes fight back against Clay doesn't happen. I agree that they add an extra amount of tension on Clay which will keep people watching the series, but what Clay is going through having to listen to the tapes and losing his friend is enough for people to keep watching. In my opinion, the only aspects these storylines are adding are cliff hangers at the end of episodes.
The Cortney Crimson tape is changed, in the book they do decide to catch out Tyler but they don’t end up having a photo taken of them kissing but instead of them massaging each other. Cortney then goes around the call sharing that Hannah wanted more from her; there is no indication in the book that Cortney is gay, whereas this is mentioned in the series. Also, the whole idea is that there are 13 different tapes, at no point in the book does Clay record the 14th tape with Bryce’s confession.
Both Hannah and Clays parents are hardly in the book, Clay's parents are vaguely mentioned during meal times but don’t have a storyline within the book.
The way that Hannah committed suicide is hardly commented on, it is mentioned that clay thought she had overdosed on pills, but this is not confirmed. In the series, it is mentioned on several separate occasions that she slit her wrists and there is also a scene showing this.
The whole idea at the end that Alex was shot was not in the book. As the whole book took place over one night, therefore every storyline in the series which requires the series to last a couple of weeks did not happen in the book such as, it doesn’t mention much of what happens to the other people on the tapes after Hannah dies.
