YFC Commissioning
Last weekend I had my YFC commissioning service. This is a service of celebration where we think back to all the amazing things God had done through YFC in the last year, and send new staff and volunteers out in the name of God to serve the young people in the communities where they work.
The commissioning service was in Birmingham, which meant that I had to leave the house at 6:45!!!! I then met Anthony (another person who is doing the gap year) to catch the train. The first train consisted of Tim vine DVDs and colouring in book (both of which are amazing!). We passed my old school and went through Stratford, which made me feel so close to home, only then finding ourselves going to London Euston and get another train to Birmingham. When we finally arrived in Birmingham, Anthony went to meet his family whilst I waited in the station for friends, (this meant that we no longer had Anthony's sense of direction!). After turning the 7 minute walk from the station to the church into a 25 minute journey, we finally arrived. I met some of my family and friends there before the service.
The commissioning was amazing!!! The sense ( the YFC One touring band) opened the service with a song before we started worship. Stance (the YFC One touring dance group) danced to the first worship song. The talk was done by Rev. John Sentamu ( the archbishop of York). The talk was amazing and so relevant to our lives. When it came to the actual commissioning, they played a video where each of our names and a photo came up. As our names came up on the screen, we went up to the front. It was so nice to hear people cheering when my name came up. We were then prayed over by Rev. John Sentamu we before we had a worship celebration.
After the commissioning I went out for a meal with my family and friends. We went to a restaurant down the road from the church where they had the most amazing food. I then got the car back to London to stay with my family.
The next morning I went to church with my family. It was so nice to see people who I used to see every week but I hadn't seen in a month. I then had a train back to Norwich that evening. It was so weird to be back in London, especially because I was only back for 20 hours.
Last weekend was such a good weekend and I can't wait till I see all the other YFC One people again!
