Celebrate
On the 11th of June, there was a joint event with loads of churches and Christian organisations, called 'Celebrate', which took place at the Forum.
Part of the day was a youth afternoon which NYFC organised and ran outside the Forum. With a bad weather report of storms happening all weekend we were praying constantly for good weather for us to be able to do this event, and I'm so happy that we had good weather, with only a little bit of rain in the evening. Thank God!
We had loads of different activities happening over the afternoon; one activity we had was a football cage. This is a small cage with goals at each end. We usually have two teams of about two people each. This was a great way to get to know the young people through playing football with them, but above all else, seeing who was the best at football out of the gap years!
We also had inflatable gladiator podiums where each person would stand on a podium with a helmet on and stick thing to try and hit the other person off their podium. This was lots of fun, but in reality lots of people, especially the younger kids, wanted to just jump on the inflatable bits around the podium.
A while ago, I talked about mission academy which was a training programme to teach young people how to do small mission projects in their local areas to reach out to their friends. One of the groups wanted to take a sofa into the center of Norwich and use it as a tool to be able to talk to people and pray of them. However, due to the rules in Norwich, this was not possible for them to do which was really disheartening, but they were still able to do this mission, just without the sofa. With all the events going on outside the Forum, we had permission to get a sofa as part of Celebrate and allow the young people to do their mission plan. This went really well and they were able to talk to lots of different members of the public about God as well as handing out cups of tea and coffee.
As well as all these activities going on, we had a stage where we were able to showcase some talent from young people. The afternoon was split into different slots, one for a drama group, one for singing, and one for open mic. In the singing slot the Jam (the NYFC music group) were performing some covers, which I was able to get involved with. This was loads of fun, the young people really enjoyed it, and we had a little audience who were sticking around to listen to us.
Through all of these activities we were able to get to know people, and talk to them about different Christian activities happening in their area. One way we did this was handing out leaflets with a link to a website called Bright Map, which has the information for lots of different Christian and community groups, including all the NYFC groups. We were able to hand them out as well as talk to people.
Prayer points:
That people look at the Bright Map website and see what groups are in their areas
That the Mission Academy group were able to get people to think about faith
Thank God for the great weather
