Easter Uncovered
In the weeks leading up to Easter, we had a chance to go into two different schools to do something called Easter Uncovered. Easter uncovered is an Easter experience day in schools which goes though the story leading up to and including the death and resurrection of Jesus.
We did this at two different schools. The first school was a high school where we had the year 8 students. We also went to a junior school and had sessions with all the students throughout the whole day.
The way this worked was by having 6 different stations, each with a different part of the Easter story. Each station had a story and an activity. The six stations were angry street, when Jesus turns over the tables outside the temple, the washing station, when Jesus washed the disciples feet, the last supper, the garden, when Jesus got arrested, the cross and the tomb, when Jesus was resurrected.
At the high school, I worked with different stations throughout the day such as the washing station, the last supper, the cross and the tomb. At the junior I stayed at the last supper station for the whole day.
The two experiences of doing Easter uncovered were quite different. At the high school each group had only 10 students, but the junior school had 25/30 students in each group. But the main difference was that it was a different age group, and we therefore had to adapt it to make it relevant for the age group we had at the time. The main difference was that in the junior school we had an assembly at the beginning and end of the day which was interactive with dramas and quizzes, which we didn't have at the high school.
I found this such a great opportunity to reach out to students and tell them the good news of Christ, and being able to do this so freely in a school as part of religious studies.
Prayer points:
The students will remember what we taught them and start to think about it
We will have more opportunities to go into schools and do similar things
