Scotland '18: Stirling

Calluna Ethical living

The first place I went when arriving in Stirling was ‘Calluna ethical living’. Only a couple of minutes from the station, Calluna is an ethical living shop which is small and cute. They mainly focus on clothing but have a few little ‘gifts’, incense and food. While I was there, I brought white chocolate with mango which was terrific!

Curly coo bar

Next, I went to the Curly coo bar. Also really close to the station, the curly coo bar has lots of great reviews. Unfortunately, the bar was closed as I went too early in the day. However, it looked super cool from the outside so you should go if you have a chance and let me know how it was!

Cambuskenneth Abbey

Next, I walked 20 mins out of the city to a little Abbey in Cumbuskenneth. This was a great little Abbey, which was closed so I couldn’t go in. I was the only person there, which seemed like a shame as it was so cute. Even though it was further out than everything else, it was definitely worth going.

Old Stirling bridge.
The old Stirling bridge, thought to be built in the 13th century, is best known for the battle that took place there in 1927. The grass around the bridge was great for relaxing and having a look at the bridge.

Bayne’s family bakers

As I was walking around, I stumbled upon a cute little family bakery. I couldn’t eat anything there, but the food all looked amazing, and I would recommend it!

Gowan hill.

Next, I went up a hill that had a great view of Stirling and some great flowers. Getting up the hill was so painful for my legs as it was so steep but it was worth it for the view.

Stirling castle.

Stirling castle is quite expensive to get into, so I decided to stay outside and have a look. The outside looked amazing, so the inside must be incredible as well.

Holy Rude

Holy rude is an old church near the castle. I found the name very strange, as I’m sure most would, so I had a little research to find out it means which is Holy Cross. The church, which looks very much like a small cathedral, had fantastic stain glass windows. There is also a small café next door which does lots of different foods.

Old Town Jail
In the same area as the castle and Holy Rude is the Old Town Jail. This again is another fantastic piece of history in the area which looks amazing.

Darnley Coffee House

Towards the end of the day, I was ready to have a sit down so looked on trip advisor for the top cafes in the area. The second one was Darnley Coffee House. They had a wide range of food and were able to cater for various different allergies and dietary requirements. Their gluten-free cake was amazing, and I would definitely recommend this café to anyone in the area, especially if you need somewhere that caters for allergies and dietary requirements.

Overall.

Overall, I loved Stirling and would happily go back. One downside is the number of hills and how steep they are. I couldn’t walk the next day!

Bye guys! Speak to you all soon.
