Up mountains and down bridges: Part 1
Just before I went back to Norwich in September, I went to Pitlochry in Scotland for a few days. It is very far to go from London for a few days but it was worth it. I go there quite often, as my Grandpa has a caravan there, so it has become like a second home to me.
Whilst I was there I kept a small diary of each day about what we did which I will share with you guys 😊
Monday: Travelling to Scotland
'When I got in the car at Wanstead, I didn't think the next time we would get out of the car was in Scotland' Matthew
No, we did not kidnap Matthew, for anyone who was wondering. We did in fact spend a very long time in the car. After leaving at 7 am we didn't get to Pitlochry until 15:45. That's almost 9 hours!
The first and only time we stopped at the services was once we entered Scotland. This was due to my mums philosophy of the journey being shorter if we have the break later on (it doesn't make it shorter... It just means that we spend more time in the car hungry and needing the toilet) and my families various allergies making us check what food they serve before we stop.
When we finally got there, we took my grandpas dog on a walk, went exploring and made some dinner. We were all so tired after the long day travel so went to sleep early.
Tuesday:
'I just want a normal tea' Abi
Tuesday was a lazing around day. We went to walk the dog, then me, my grandpa and two of my brothers went out for lunch.
We went to a really nice little tea shop in the centre of Pitlochry called Hettie's. This is such a cute little shop with bright colours, thousand of different types of tea and delicious food! When it came round to picking what type of tea I wanted I just went for a normal tea, because I couldn't work my way through all the different types. It was so much! I had a lovely soup with some gluten free bread to go with it.
After lunch we then went shopping round Pitlochry. We found a little charity second hand book shop which was in the train station. I would of spent hours in there if I could, but 4 books later I left, explored the town centre a bit more, before going back to the camp site.
Wednesday:
'My legs hurt so much!' Abi
On Wednesday, my brother an I climbed a mountain! Mount Schiehallion is one of the Monroe mountains in Perthshire, Scotland, and only about 45 mins away from where we were staying.
My cousin had gone yo Schiehallion a couple of weeks before us, and managed to do it in 3 hours and 45 mins, so we were determined to beat her! This was defiantly an occasion of Family competition.
We started climbing the mountain at 10:50, and by 11 I was already starting to regret the idea! I always object to walking/ cycling up hills, so why would climbing a mountain be a good idea! However we powered on. James, being a poke one go addict spent a far amount of time on his phone looking at what Pokemon he could find climbing Schiehallion with us! He didn't find many. After 2 hours and 25 minuets we got up to the summit, took a load of photos, marvelled over the Poke stop, then started our descend down the mountain.
I thought that going down the mountain would be easier than going up, but boy was I wrong! My clumsy nature mixed with me going down a mountain meant that I spent more time falling down than going down in a nice elegant way. In the first 5 mins I fell down 3 times, scraping various parts of my legs in rocks in the process, and yet again started to question why I thought this was a good idea. But all I had to do was look round at the amazing scenery of what God had created, and I knew that it was all worth it.
We made in down the mountain in 1 hour 35 mins, making the total time 4 hours, 15 mins away from my cousins time.... But we made it and I was so happy about this.
Even through all the trials and hardships of climbing/ falling down the mountain, looking back at it I really enjoyed it and would like to do something like that again!
The rest of the day I spent lying down in bed, as my legs would not let me do anything else.
