October films part two

Miss Saigon: 25th Anniversary. 2016. 15. DVD.

Kim is a seventeen-year-old Asian girl who falls in love with an American soldier. This musical is about their relationship, and what happens when he has to return back to America.

It was a musical I understood!! Most of the times when I watch musicals, I don't really understand what is going on, but this time I did which helped me grow to love the film. I defiantly want to watch it again, and I would love to see it on stage.

Nativity. 2009. PG. Netflix.

Nativity looks at a school in Coventry, England, who have a Christmas play. It rumour starts spreading that a Hollywood film crew are coming to the school to film the play and make it into a film. The teacher ends up going along with the rumour as he can't bring himself to break the kid's hearts.

I love this film! Yes, it may be a Christmas film, but I will watch it all year round (in the past people have told me off for watching it in June). It is a very happy, lighthearted film, and so so cute! There are now sequels to this film, and they are good, but this one will always win.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. 2007. 12. TV.

New film, new school year! Harry is now 15, and Voldemort is alive again. Harry goes back to school after the summer, but most of his fellow students do not believe him when he says that Voldemort is back. The new defence against the dark arts teacher refuses to teach the students how to defend themselves, so Harry and a group of students create a group who teach each other.

Who knows how many times I have watched this film! But I hadn't watched it in about a year. This is probably one of my least favourite Harry Potter films, but it still has some amazing highlights. I have a love-hate relationship with Umbridge, ultimately I do hate her, but she is so funny! One of the reasons why I don't like it that much is because nothing really happens, it is quite a slow film.

Despicable Me 3. U. Cinema.

Despicable Me 3 is about the same people in the previous films. Gru and Lucy are now married and work together. One day someone comes to the house with a message from Gru from his twin brother, Dru, who Gru didn't know existed. The family then go on an adventure to meet Dru and get to know him.

This film is amazing and fuels my love of minions and all things discipline me. I managed to watch this with my brother and Dad at one of the Odeon kids screenings when I was visiting family. The Odeon Kids screenings happen on days when kids aren't at school (weekend or holidays) in the morning for a reduced price. The idea is that kids who normally don't stay still or make noise can go and it doesn't matter if they are a bit disruptive. As soon as I found out it was despicable me on that day, I booked tickets to go. I think the tickets were £2.50 each.

Laputa. 1986. PG. DVD.

Laputa is about a girl called Sheeta, who has a magical crystal around her neck, and a boy called Pazu, who finds Laputa after she falls out of a plane. Whilst they are being followed by pirates, they decided to discover Laputa, the magic floating city.

I love Studio Ghibli films, and this is one of the first ones. I had not watched it before, so I was quite excited to watch it. It is very similar to the other Studio Ghibli films, and I was quite shocked how well the animation was done, considering the film was made in the 80's. I'm definitely going to watch this film again. I may even have a Studio Ghibli movie day...

Noah. 2014. 12. Amazon Prime Video.

Noah is a film based on the bible story of Noah and the Ark. For those who don't know, Noah was asked by God to build an ark for his family and some animals to go on for the flood what god was going to send to wipe out the earth.
I hated this film so much. I may have enjoyed it more if it wasn't based on the story of Noah, but the film was so different to the original story and had so many bits added or changed. The film makes Noah out to be an evil person, which is definitely not how he was portrayed in the bible. I felt that it was no longer the traditional story of Noah.

A Monster Calls. 2016. 12. Amazon Prime Video.

Connor is a young teenage boy whose mother is seriously ill. This means that he has to cope with a lot more than most boys his age, including, cleaning, cooking and looking after his mum. One night a monster appears at his bedroom window and guides him through an extraordinary journey of stories to help him be strong through a difficult life.

After I got over the fact that I found the monster spooky, I really enjoyed the film. It's very different to anything else I have watched, and the issues it picks up in regards to loneliness and illness in parents. I would definitely watch it again!

Zootropolis. 2016. PG. DVD.

Zootropolis is a film about a rabbit who has dreamed to be a part of the police since she was very little. No other rabbit has made it onto the police force before, but through all her hard work she manages to qualify and move to the 'scary' city of Zootropolis.

This film is the cutest thing ever! It has a great message for children about working together with people who are different to you, and I think these messages are something that Disney has become very good at recently. However, there has been some confusion about the name of this film, in the UK it is called Zootropolis, but in the US it is called Zootopia. I had a bit of a google to see why this was and came across an article which stated: 'Don't bother asking Walt Disney. “In the UK we decided to change the US title to Zootropolis to merely allow the film to have a unique title that works for UK audiences,” a spokesperson said when queried. To clarify, they're changing the title because they're changing the title.' If only I could use arguments like that in my essays!
